President's Message

Hello All,

Happy New Year! I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season.

First off, ACI CNY owes a huge thank you to Jamie Davis, P.E., LEED AP, President of Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis Engineering & Surveying, P.C., for filling in for us at the November dinner meeting. Those of us who were not affected by the snow and made it to this meeting spent an enjoyable, entertaining, and informative evening learning about the design and redesign of Breckenridge Place in Ithaca. The project consists of CMU bearing walls and precast concrete plank, floors, and roof. THANK YOU!

Dave Orzel and I spoke the day prior to the event and agreed that it would be no problem for him to make it from his home just south of Buffalo for the presentation. Boy were we wrong! The NYS Thruway closed that evening and didn’t reopen for days. We will definitely get Dave on the ACI CNY event schedule for next winter.

Now on to our first dinner meeting of 2015. Chris Latreille, P.E., also with Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis and Past President of ACI CNY, will discuss the expanding use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) on 1/21. BIM basically "builds" the building digitally first so that design conflicts can be discovered prior to construction.

If you come and hear his talk, you will have a great reply ready for the next person who says “you can’t build this building while sitting in your office!"

Click here to register for this informative session. I hope to see you there!

Program description:

The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for project advancement and design is without question one of the most significant developments in the construction industry in the last ten years. The use of software such as Autodesk Revit by Engineers and Architects is well known and is fast becoming the norm. Contractors and suppliers are also taking advantage of BIM as a powerful tool for developing submittals, generating estimates, and determining sequencing and feasibility of various construction operations, such as erection and staging. This presentation will showcase some of the benefits of BIM during design and construction, particularly concrete and masonry construction.

Presented by:

Mr. Latreille is a Principal Associate of Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis Engineering & Surveying,  P.C., a 40-person consulting structural, civil, and land surveying engineering firm. He works in the Finger Lakes Office in Skaneateles Falls, New York. With the firm since 2001, he is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
